Pre-Trip Preparations and Hotel Arrival
Journey to Gibraltar and La Linea
Our Gibraltar adventure began with a bus ride to La Linea, the Spanish town bordering the British territory. The journey itself wasn't remarkable, but the anticipation was palpable. We were excited to experience this unique juxtaposition of cultures.
Checking into our hotel in La Linea was a breeze. The room was surprisingly spacious – much larger than expected! A humongous bed, a balcony with a lovely view of the sea and Gibraltar Rock, and even a little teapot added to the charm. The hotel also boasted a small swimming pool, a nice bonus.
Crossing the border into Gibraltar was surprisingly easy on foot. The car lines were ridiculously long, though, so I highly recommend walking if you're heading that way. We presented our passports, stepped across the invisible line, and were immediately greeted by a distinctly British atmosphere.
Hotel Room Tour and Balcony Views
Our hotel room in La Linea was a pleasant surprise. It was significantly larger than expected, boasting a king-sized bed that practically begged us to collapse onto it after our journey. Little touches, like a welcoming teapot and a generous supply of bottled water, added to the overall charm. The bathroom, though not overly spacious, was perfectly adequate and clean; a very welcome sight after a day of travel.
But the real highlight was the balcony. Stepping out onto it, we were treated to a breathtaking view. The sparkling Mediterranean stretched before us, the beach a sun-drenched stripe of sand below. And, of course, dominating the horizon, the imposing silhouette of Gibraltar Rock. It was the perfect spot for an evening glass of wine, a morning coffee, or simply absorbing the stunning panorama.
From our elevated vantage point, we could also make out the port area bustling with activity, and even catch a glimpse of our hotel's small but perfectly serviceable swimming pool. It was a picturesque scene, a lovely juxtaposition of the relaxed Spanish atmosphere and the monumental presence of the Rock itself. It set the stage perfectly for our adventure in Gibraltar.
