Arrival and First Impressions of Granada
The Scenic Bus Trip from Malaga
Our journey from Malaga to Granada began with a bus ride – a perfectly reasonable choice, given the distance. We anticipated a trip of about an hour and forty-five minutes, and secretly hoped for some impressive mountain views along the way. I’d packed a book, just in case the scenery was less than spectacular.
The bus itself was perfectly adequate; nothing fancy, but comfortable enough for the journey. Surprisingly, the views *were* pretty spectacular. The Spanish countryside, even viewed from a bus window, unfolded before us in a tapestry of green hills and distant peaks. It was a relaxing start to our Granada adventure; a calm before the storm of exploring this vibrant city.
Setting Up in the New Granada Home
Arriving at our new Granada rental, excitement bubbled over. It looked incredibly charming – a picture of classic Spanish architecture. The only minor snag? Figuring out how to actually *get inside* proved a slightly more challenging puzzle than anticipated. A charming problem, to be sure, but a problem nonetheless!
Once inside, though, the charm really hit home. It was cozy and inviting, the perfect base for our Granada adventures. We settled in quickly, eager to explore. The afternoon sun streamed through the windows, casting a warm glow across the simple but comfortable furnishings. It felt instantly like home.
Exploring Granada's City Center in the Heat
Our walk towards Granada's city center was an immediate baptism by fire. The heat was intense – a sweltering 38 degrees, according to my phone. I felt a bead of sweat trickle down my spine almost instantly. But, thankfully, a gentle breeze offered occasional reprieve; a small mercy in that intense sun. It was enough to make the exploration feel manageable, though I certainly appreciated the shade of every doorway we passed.
Hydration became paramount. We stopped often – maybe too often, some might say – for refreshing drinks. The local cafes were havens, offering not only cool beverages but also the delightful discovery of free tapas with every order. These weren't dainty little snacks, either. These were substantial portions, enough to make a light lunch of on their own. It was a delightful surprise, typical of the generous hospitality I’d heard about beforehand. We definitely took full advantage of this unique local custom!
Even the simple act of navigating the city's uphill streets became an adventure in itself, a testament to the intense heat. We found ourselves pausing frequently for rest, especially when tackling any stairs. One particularly steep climb was almost more than I bargained for! It reminded me just how important pacing oneself is, especially in such challenging weather.
