A Nordic-Style Cafe and Finnish Encounters
Exploring a Popular Nordic-Style Cafe
My first stop was a Nordic-style cafe I’d been eager to try. It was bustling, a testament to its popularity – I felt lucky to snag a seat. The atmosphere was cozy, the perfect antidote to the January chill. I ordered a canal bulle (a cinnamon roll), hot chocolate, and, unexpectedly, a complimentary jam cookie because they were out of whipped cream.
The cinnamon roll was incredible – moist and flavorful, unlike some dry specimens I’ve encountered. The hot chocolate was decent, nothing extraordinary, but the jam cookie? A delightful surprise! I also brought a book, a fantasy romance, to keep me company during my solo exploration of Amsterdam. It proved a perfect companion.
A funny coincidence occurred. The woman seated next to me was also Finnish! As a Finn myself, I remained discreet, unlike my more boisterous self in Colombia where I readily struck up conversations with fellow Finns. It made me wonder; are you more outgoing when abroad? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
